1: anonymous 2024/05/22 14:53:54 ID:y4Bbod5kd
Kinda plain.
4: anonymous 2024/05/22 14:55:00 ID:A4+ZO2kO0
But what if you add beer to it?
6: anonymous 2024/05/22 14:55:32 ID:JHFN7m7k0
Satisfied with just sausages and beer.
2: anonymous 2024/05/22 14:54:26 ID:Tmp0XPlY0
But it's tasty.
3: anonymous 2024/05/22 14:54:49 ID:2Ti4z9vfd
Seems like they don't have desserts.
105: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:27:47 ID:jB2wM+jo0

Their cakes are huge.
18: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:06:46 ID:RnVaERNO0
>>3
Baumkuchen.

But apparently, many Germans don't even know it exists.
5: anonymous 2024/05/22 14:55:06 ID:EDZlaYni0
I want to eat a bellyful of sauerkraut.
I want to take home the Indian curry one.
7: anonymous 2024/05/22 14:55:33 ID:4w5Dre8a0
Hamburg steak alone can keep you going for a while.
8: anonymous 2024/05/22 14:55:49 ID:hQ8+eiFf0
Are there not many ethnic groups that put weight on food?
49: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:23:02 ID:8AmqeKPf0
>>8
Not many.
Only Japanese people have an outstanding passion for food.
87: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:02:08 ID:ImNebl+D0
>>49
China too, right?
102: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:22:59 ID:SdoRb5Q60
>>8
That's not true.
Germany is just a cold and poor land where even wheat is hard to grow, so they simply have fewer ingredients.
Countries located on the warm and fertile coastlines of the southern Eurasian continent can choose from seafood, fruits, vegetables, and even staple foods.
It's the difference between lands where you fight to eat and lands where you fight to see what's delicious.
14: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:04:26 ID:9lEYaPcUd
Europe has a history of wars, so their food culture didn't develop much.
Just kidding.
9: anonymous 2024/05/22 14:57:35 ID:SXIlmN3F0
I don't understand why their bread is so sour.
11: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:01:48 ID:p6suxnl20
Schnitzel also pretends to be German cuisine, so include it.
10: anonymous 2024/05/22 14:58:47 ID:uk7HIaoB0
They have pretzels and tree-shaped cakes too.
12: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:02:05 ID:rStJ3mtv0
Dutch cuisine isn't much different, right?
13: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:02:46 ID:+csMPF1w0
I kinda want to try blood sausage once.
16: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:05:11 ID:p6suxnl20
For sweets, it's Haribo, I guess.
17: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:06:08 ID:RnVaERNO0
Schweinshaxe, schnitzel, frikadelle, and sauerbraten aren't processed meats.
19: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:08:32 ID:fqAXR6Z00
Bûche de Noël.
35: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:17:44 ID:QJ67RyI70
>>19
Isn't that French?
40: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:19:12 ID:p6suxnl20
He probably meant stollen.
20: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:11:39 ID:nyxvTnVV0
【Sad News】The only German words Japanese people know are Bayern, Schauen, and Essen Polka.
22: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:12:43 ID:JHFN7m7k0
>>20
I know a cool German word: Kugelschreiber.
25: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:13:19 ID:p6suxnl20
>>20
I know a bunch, like Ahnenerbe and Rätsel. 😤
45: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:21:47 ID:a8XJSFCc0
>>20
Energie and Karte are German words.
48: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:22:58 ID:vN7gPIny0
>>45
Energy and virus have no signs of being replaced by "energy" and "virus."
53: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:25:29 ID:8AmqeKPf0
>>45
Like "Arbeit."
63: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:32:40 ID:2xPJ82BOd
>>20
Hamburg steak.
24: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:13:13 ID:6peoF0VfM
They also have raw pork.
26: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:13:21 ID:BpLKcMsT0
Potatoes, sausages, and beer is the image.
21: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:12:00 ID:tlIo4cGV0
Beer covers a lot, but Germany is quite similar to the UK in terms of "food is just something to eat."
78: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:51:57 ID:bkpQNlEM0
>>21
So Anglo-Saxons have bad food, huh?
86: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:59:13 ID:RnVaERNO0
>>78
In Protestant countries, indulgence in physical pleasures is seen as a sin against faith, so meals have to be simple.
The reason why the UK, with its Church of England, has bad food is because its land is not suitable for growing crops and during the Industrial Revolution, industry was prioritized over food.
93: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:09:39 ID:bkpQNlEM0
>>86
I see.
29: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:14:17 ID:p6suxnl20
They have a ton of different types of bread, cheese, and ham.
Breakfast is just those things, but each has a huge variety.
30: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:14:58 ID:msfuylF10
The non-spicy mustard was delicious.
32: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:16:42 ID:vN7gPIny0
That's a lie; they also have asparagus.
37: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:18:47 ID:dzILGqiq0
They have tartare steak too.
38: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:18:49 ID:9Wv7f9wg0
I can't stand eating potatoes every day.
It doesn't feel like I've eaten a meal.
41: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:19:18 ID:UHuYA+/H0
You can survive a week in Germany with just schnitzel.
It's practically tonkatsu.
But staying for years would be tough.
42: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:20:17 ID:rStJ3mtv0
Isn't the UK still better? 🤔
46: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:22:17 ID:p6suxnl20
>>42
Their bread, cheese, and ham are all delicious.
There are many varieties, and while some may not suit everyone's taste, they are good.
But if you don't like Germany, long-term stays might get boring.
43: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:20:53 ID:vN7gPIny0
I've heard they have a recipe book with just potato salad recipes.
Apparently, they have a strong passion for potato salad.
44: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:21:02 ID:egIaoT+z0
Sour cabbage means sauerkraut, right?
47: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:22:21 ID:B5CF7QdO0
I wonder if Eisbein is tasty.
59: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:30:11 ID:RnVaERNO0
>>47
It's very meaty.
Personally, I prefer it roasted rather than just eating it as is.
52: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:25:22 ID:NtijpHH70
I've learned to use beer instead of water for stews.
56: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:28:26 ID:RnVaERNO0
From my own research after traveling to multiple European countries:
1. Italy
2. Belgium
3. Spain
4. Croatia
5. Czech Republic
6. France
7. Netherlands
8. Poland
9. Slovenia
10. Germany
12. Ireland
12. Austria
13. UK

I've only eaten Greek, Russian, and Portuguese food in Japanese restaurants.
110: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:34:02 ID:CQyA/oAG0
>>56
Portuguese food is delicious with bacalhau dishes.
German food was also generally tasty.
58: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:29:05 ID:qhb1+oGX0
I knew Spanish food was good, but Belgium is a favorite too.
60: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:31:16 ID:P1XsuPKO0
Is it true that Baumkuchen is super minor in its home country?
64: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:33:23 ID:vN7gPIny0
>>60
It's a local confection from the western part of the country.
It's from the hometown of Yuhime-san.
65: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:34:11 ID:RnVaERNO0
>>60
It's so minor that even German embassy staff often try it for the first time in Japan.
69: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:35:56 ID:P1XsuPKO0
>>64
>>65
There must be other things like this too.
67: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:35:33 ID:qhb1+oGX0
>>60
I heard it's not that uncommon.
Similar things exist outside of Germany too, but they're incredibly tedious to make, so you can't just whip them up easily.
77: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:45:13 ID:qhb1+oGX0
Baumkuchen is treated like Akafuku or Shingen Mochi in Japan.
Even the old shops in Germany are fighting over who made it first.
62: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:32:02 ID:jjgeZ2ww0
I went to Germany, and the food was really bad.
Worse than the UK, and there are no German restaurants.
They say German cuisine is what you eat at home, so there are no such restaurants, according to the locals.
70: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:36:27 ID:RnVaERNO0
>>62
You can eat German food at beer halls in Germany.
72: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:37:29 ID:uk7HIaoB0
Would I be okay if I love potatoes and sausages? 🙄
I feel like I wouldn't mind eating potatoes every day.
68: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:35:39 ID:/mJ/RVlq0
Isn't it the same everywhere in Europe?
Bean soup drives me crazy.
73: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:37:50 ID:phmb182o0
It looks tasty with beer.
74: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:38:52 ID:9eRxikVU0
Isn't it schnitzel and white asparagus?
76: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:44:37 ID:RnVaERNO0
>>74
White asparagus is a seasonal specialty during Frühling Fest.
75: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:39:02 ID:d019r183d
There are also things like white asparagus and pig's feet.
80: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:53:53 ID:Nrm+zjVt0
Imported sauerkraut from Germany is so sour that it's tough for Japanese people to eat. It's something you have a bit of as a palate cleanser after stuffing yourself with currywurst.
97: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:19:04 ID:29d7O4rGp
>>80
When a German acquaintance saw me munching on it, he told his wife, "This guy is okay with sauerkraut."
116: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:47:54 ID:ahopRtDO0
>>97
They're treating you like a dog, LOL.
81: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:56:08 ID:hQX2hNvs0
I thought Germans lived on sausages and beer alone.
82: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:56:23 ID:9idnQ2PAd
I want to eat white sausage that's only good until the morning.
84: anonymous 2024/05/22 15:57:48 ID:+FJsX6D70
After going to the UK, it's so delicious it makes me cry.
90: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:04:46 ID:RnVaERNO0
I think countries with delicious food tend to have loose religious rules and a wide variety of ingredients.
94: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:15:26 ID:hmCaLpxk0
Zundamon said there's only potatoes and sausages.
98: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:19:05 ID:ZMPcm1Pp0
It's a country where winters are so cold that only potatoes can grow, and livestock can't survive the winter without being processed into preserved food. I get why the food culture is all about potatoes and sausages, but it's 2024, so they should eat better stuff by now.
101: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:22:20 ID:RnVaERNO0
>>98
Modern Germans eat pizza, pasta, kebabs, and Chinese food just fine. It's just that food culture and history make it hard for German cuisine, which didn't have a strong foundation, to develop.
99: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:21:49 ID:b5EJ0T/Y0
But German food isn't that bad. It just lacks flair. Compared to Italy and France, even other European countries' food seems abnormal.
100: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:22:06 ID:qhb1+oGX0
Before the Industrial Revolution, wheat production was so inefficient compared to rice that it couldn't be a staple food. Rice could yield over 20 times more from one grain, but wheat only about three times, which wasn't sustainable.
112: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:41:29 ID:Nrm+zjVt0
>>100
It also depends on the richness of the land. Areas like Tunisia, formerly Carthage, and the Nile Delta in Egypt had decent harvest efficiency, which supported the food of the Roman Empire. But when the Vandals and Islam took over, it contributed to Rome's collapse.
104: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:24:44 ID:TWw+H7h60
One thing I notice when I go abroad is that sweets are excessively sweet everywhere. Is there a reason for that?
106: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:28:25 ID:qhb1+oGX0
>>104
I saw data on that. Japan's daily sugar consumption is slightly below the global average.
107: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:28:54 ID:tBrAv34A0
Apparently, young Germans hate sauerkraut too, but I like it. Maybe it's like how young Japanese don't eat nukazuke.
108: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:29:13 ID:ZQEYkoYZ0
Fish dishes are really bad and expensive. But meat dishes, although not visually appealing, taste good. And the bread is surprisingly delicious. Even the regular bread from local bakeries or the bread used to hold grilled sausages is good.
114: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:43:53 ID:TzQUSwHc0
Also, just boiled meat is ridiculously expensive.
109: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:29:32 ID:jB2wM+jo0
If you go to a supermarket, you'll be amazed at the variety of potato types. It's like rice.
111: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:39:14 ID:iPOgLjnV0
I've never found a currywurst that tastes good.
113: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:41:42 ID:uqs/PxvY0
Isn't there a lot of Turkish food in Germany?
92: anonymous 2024/05/22 16:08:12 ID:fJWiM40O0
Just like foreigners only know about sushi and ramen when it comes to Japanese food, we probably only know a handful of foreign dishes too.
