It's way too easy to read.
You can tell what's happening at a glance.

2: anonymous 2024/06/24 04:37:06 ID:aML+zt770.net
People don't mention it much, but
don't you think it's amazing how the sound effects blend perfectly with the artwork?

I get it. Compared to that, "DON!!!" looks kinda dumb.
3: anonymous 2024/06/24 04:38:17 ID:x75mluIb0.net
The color illustrations are seriously amazing.
It's all done with Copic markers, right? Analog and no room for mistakes.
5: anonymous 2024/06/24 04:42:04 ID:tE0mSaZv0.net
>>3
Back in the day, everyone did it that way, lol.
43: anonymous 2024/06/24 06:57:14 ID:iruLmWqr0.net

Toriyama didn't use Copics.
When everyone around him started using Copics, he tried it too but couldn't get it right and stopped.
He used regular color inks for his color work.
6: anonymous 2024/06/24 04:42:21 ID:QblycUkZ0.net
There's no one who can draw sound effects like this.
7: anonymous 2024/06/24 04:42:22 ID:1q5QIJt00.net
What has Akira Toriyama been up to recently?
I looked it up and found out he passed away...
I'm shocked...
51: anonymous 2024/06/24 07:12:58 ID:MtA3ffmw0.net
>>7
He was in the news a lot recently, wasn't he?
11: anonymous 2024/06/24 05:00:57 ID:U6Qgu14y0.net
It's amazing even with almost no backgrounds.
12: anonymous 2024/06/24 05:04:12 ID:5ztg83NFr.net
The movement in the panels predicts the next one.
The next panel connects with the previous movement and leads to the next.
This continuous flow makes it stress-free for the reader and creates a sense of speed.
13: anonymous 2024/06/24 05:05:21 ID:IvgFZ0XI0.net
There are so many manga where I can't tell what's happening in the battles.
It might be partly my lack of understanding, though.
14: anonymous 2024/06/24 05:06:16 ID:+bWno1wx0.net
It doesn't feel like he's gone.
15: anonymous 2024/06/24 05:09:07 ID:iLLK1Kfy0.net
Oda should really learn from this.
21: anonymous 2024/06/24 05:43:05 ID:eb+Nl0GA0.net
>>15
Oda is really bad at drawing battle scenes.
Even when the mob explains everything from A to Z, it still doesn't make sense sometimes.
23: anonymous 2024/06/24 05:48:53 ID:D6pHM0Zs0.net
>>21
Early One Piece was really easy to follow.
But now, honestly, I can't tell what's going on.

Torishima was worried about that and hesitated to start the serialization.
At first, the editors kept it clean, but now it's out of control.
57: anonymous 2024/06/24 07:34:24 ID:C6Fl2S2O0.net
>>21
You only understand it after watching the anime.
75: anonymous 2024/06/24 07:57:11 ID:QQBkGxi80.net
>>15
I've been hoping for improvement for about 20 years, but nothing has changed.
Don't expect anything from him.
76: anonymous 2024/06/24 07:59:05 ID:NpBo9dJn0.net
>>75
It's the editorial department's fault for making him a king.
The early days were good because he listened to the editor's advice.
79: anonymous 2024/06/24 08:02:27 ID:F9bmNuM/0.net
>>76
Torishima said that he started the serialization on the condition that it would be easy to read.
But after the first editor left and the editors kept changing...
16: anonymous 2024/06/24 05:11:17 ID:Dey8lwNI0.net
Nappa and Recoome have similar characters, don't they?
17: anonymous 2024/06/24 05:26:18 ID:U6Qgu14y0.net
>>16
They're brothers, so it's somewhat expected.
19: anonymous 2024/06/24 05:37:45 ID:NpBo9dJn0.net
What makes Toriyama amazing is his godlike eye guidance.
20: anonymous 2024/06/24 05:37:46 ID:X1wZR/yh0.net
It's impressive how you can instantly grasp what's happening despite the intense movements and changing perspectives.
Sorry, but Jujutsu looks like a child's doodle in comparison.
22: anonymous 2024/06/24 05:44:08 ID:NpBo9dJn0.net
It's easy to understand what's happening and how things are moving, so it must have been easy for the animation studios.
The problem is that the pacing is so good that if they animate it as is, they'll run out of source material quickly.
Demon Slayer and Jujutsu probably had to work really hard to fill in the gaps.
24: anonymous 2024/06/24 05:56:49 ID:e17ejVn00.net
Akira Toriyama viewed each page as a poster.
He drew the panel layout and the overall image as a single poster.
That's why each page is so easy to read.
There was no other manga artist like him.
25: anonymous 2024/06/24 06:04:16 ID:yw4ZD9Ql0.net
He used the trick of catching up to something he threw, like Tao Pai Pai.
26: anonymous 2024/06/24 06:16:08 ID:LboAKxQ70.net
It's amazing how he maintained this level of quality over such a long period.
What happened to Oda?
34: anonymous 2024/06/24 06:28:17 ID:9S7HhhHgd.net
>>26
It's a common issue for manga artists to be afraid of having too much white space.
He likes to fill in the details, but the real failure is the editors not being able to correct it.
45: anonymous 2024/06/24 06:59:30 ID:iZ/68M4UH.net
Is there anyone nowadays who can get away with using so many large panels?
46: anonymous 2024/06/24 07:02:26 ID:MDcwgKER0.net
>>45
Shibata Yokusaru often has only about four panels per double-page spread, lol.
50: anonymous 2024/06/24 07:10:06 ID:pQGmba270.net
There are many scenes where Toyotaro copies Toriyama's compositions, but it's obvious he's not as good.

52: anonymous 2024/06/24 07:15:04 ID:iruLmWqr0.net

I don't know much about drawing techniques, but the lines are just wrong.
There's no variation in the lines, and they're too thick, making it look bad.
It looks like it was drawn with a marker.
55: anonymous 2024/06/24 07:27:13 ID:ib0+3Qq5d.net
>>50
He's not bad, he's actually good, but to replicate Toriyama's art, he's lacking in sketching.
He hasn't fully grasped the skeleton and overall silhouette.
The lines are very neat, and with some serious training, he could improve a lot.
66: anonymous 2024/06/24 07:43:18 ID:gONQdCcb0.net
>>50
Compared to a genius, yeah.
54: anonymous 2024/06/24 07:25:07 ID:054CLw2A0.net
With art this easy to understand, it must have been easy to animate.
64: anonymous 2024/06/24 07:40:42 ID:Mkbn62HH0.net

I really love this.
68: anonymous 2024/06/24 07:45:26 ID:ZZpu4ITe0.net
>>64
I came here to see this.
65: anonymous 2024/06/24 07:42:44 ID:5/FXFn9H0.net
It's amazing how he came up with the expression of energy.
You can clearly see how things move.
78: anonymous 2024/06/24 08:00:11 ID:F9bmNuM/0.net
>>65
That was actually Otomo's invention.
71: anonymous 2024/06/24 07:49:11 ID:rdJizOu5a.net
>>65
Was there no such expression of trajectories before DB?
77: anonymous 2024/06/24 07:59:19 ID:5/FXFn9H0.net
>>71
I don't think there was anything like Vegeta in >>1 where you can instantly see how he moved and where he put his strength.
83: anonymous 2024/06/24 08:05:54 ID:xw8nOoc+0.net

People who can draw like this are going to disappear.
You can't get this vibe with digital.
84: anonymous 2024/06/24 08:07:15 ID:RH89+iCD0.net
Toriyama's reluctance to draw manga actually works in his favor.
Oda, on the other hand, loves manga so much that it ends up being a mess.
